Samsung is all set to launch the Galaxy Mega in India tomorrow for an expected price of Rs. 27,999/- and 29,999/- as an MRP of the product’s two variants. The Handset which has gained quite some hype in India is expected to beat sales of the Galaxy Grand, and also be the next hot category for the company.
The Galaxy Mega comes in two variants one with a 5.8 inch screen and one with a 6.3 inch screen, although both may not be launched tomorrow there is a high possibility that they will be shown off.
Specifications on these devices consist of Dual core processors, and an unusual 1.5 GB of RAM for the handsets. The 5.8 inch version has a QHD display 190 ppi density, whereas the 6.3 inch will come with a 1280 x720 p display with a 233 ppi density.
The Galaxy Mega 6.3 sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.7 GHz whereas the Galaxy Mega 5.8 comes with a Broadcom chipset similar to the one  found in the Grand. Other inclusions have the 8 megapixel cameras with 1080p video on both phones and a front facing 1.9 MP camera. Leaked Image Shows Nexus 4 Running Android 4.3, New Camera Camera UI

android_logo-wallpaper-1024x768
Leading up to Google’s I/O event, there were a lot of rumors indicating that we would see the unveiling of Android version 4.3 rather than 5.0. However, during the keynote, Google ended up not addressing a new version of Android at all. Instead, they chose to focus on updating individual apps  and APIs separate from the operating system.

Today we get a first-hand look at the software in action, with a number of images appearing to show Android 4.3 running on a Nexus 4. The image was taken at the Thailand Mobile Expo and posted on the XDA Developers forum.
We clearly see Android 4.3 Jelly Bean as the OS, with a build date being May 14th, so it’s a pretty new updated version. Then the build number is listed as JWR45B.
The other pictures show the camera in action – with a slightly modified interface – and a screen of just the Jelly Bean Easter Egg that can be found in the About section too.
The camera interface seems to include a new see-through action area, complete with a new activation ring and fresh icons for HDR, contrast, and rotation.
The images don’t seem to show any significant changes, so the possibility remains that Google didn’t show their latest version of Android perhaps because there isn’t much to show in the first place. They could be saving the bigger changes for a major 5.0 update rather than another incremental version update.
Is what we heard about a June launch, alongside the white Nexus 4 accurate?

SAMSUNG 5G NETWORK TEST IN KOREA

On Monday, Samsung made a 5G announcement promising download of 3D movies in seconds.  Samsung did the most masterful job of spinning a test for the maximum public relations impact that I have seen in a long time.  Samsung served up such a sumptuous treat to the media who seem fascinated by technology. Obviously many media people are not engineers and as such may not have the background to know the right questions to ask.
The announcement first caught my eye when it was reported by South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency .  Subsequently Samsung stated that its new 5G technology will provide transmission rates of several hundred times faster than 4G.
Here is why Samsung’s announcement is a hyperbole.
  • Its experiment achieved a data rate of 1.056 Gbps.  This is not several hundred times of today’s fastest 4G LTE networks.  According to a study, even AT&T T +0.16% which does not have the fastest network in the world achieved 57.7 Mbps of maximum download speeds in real life.  Samsung’s test achieved only about 18 times AT&T’s max average speed.
  • Transmissions in the millimeter wave band do not pass through building walls.
  • Transmissions in the millimeter wave band are attenuated even by trees.
  • Transmissions In the millimeter wave band are easily absorbed by rain drops, humidity has significant impact.
  • Samsung claims to have used a 64 element antenna.  There are no more details about this antenna.  Considering the claims Samsung is making, it appears to me that transitioning such an antenna from a mere outdoor experiment to the point of miniaturization so that it can be used in an actual phone may be not be easily achievable.
  • Transmissions in the millimeter band are typically used in line-of-sight applications because they do not bend or reflect well.
  • There is a doppler shift when the recipient is moving and this can be a significant issue.
  • At these high frequencies, a phone can be severely  impacted by shadowing caused by the user’s body.
  • Although 4G has become part of our daily vocabulary, there is no 5G standard that exists today.  5G is simply a generic term for the next generation network.  In general, in the world of communications, standards are developed long before commercialization.  There is no 5G standard published by any recognized body.
  • Samsung itself projects that the technology may not be ready until 2020.
Samsung deserves credit for working on new high speed technologies.  As I wrote yesterday such developments may pose risk to Apple.   New developments may also pose risks for Qualcomm QCOM +1.52%.  The rest of the Google GOOG +0.52% Android phone manufacturers, BlackBerry, and Nokia will simply license new technologies.

PRICE Approx. 12,990 INR ~ 240 USD Good pricing, though price should fall down to 10,000 INR. value for money rating 4/5

Strong points : Very good build quality & looks, comparable to any high end mobile phone. The display frame is very narrow like premium devices & the plastic body is of very good quality, making it look like a pricier device.  The camera is also very good. The large display size & best in class processor, free flip cover & stylus make this device one of the best phones for drawing, watching movies, playing games etc.
Weak points : The main drawback is obviously the relatively lower resolution display, you can get Canvas HD with an HD IPS display just by paying 2.5-3K more. The RAM & GPU are also not best in class but still acceptable considering the other features of this phablet. The internal memory is only 2.42 GB user available out-of-the-box. The headset comes free with this phone isn’t up to the mark.
Suitable for those people who are looking for a high performance phone with a huge display within budget. The stylus is great for drawing. This phone is also good for watching movies, photography & mid-range gaming.

Nokia has launched the new Lumia 925 in London at a press conference today. While all Lumia phones till date have been plastic the new Lumia 925 has a completely Aluminum Frame. While most of the specs remain same and the phone has the same dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 1GB RAM and 8.7-megapixel OIS camera of the 920, the Lumia 925 is almost 50 grams (1.8 ounces) lighter than last year’s Lumia 920.
Even with the 8.8mm profile, there’s an identical 2,000mAh battery but the Wiless charging has been removed to accomodate the profile of the new Lumia 925. For those who are disheartened, an accessory cover can be had which will re-enable said wireless features. The colors include red, yellow, black and white. The Lumia 925 model also sports an 4.5-inch AMOLED screen with the resolution of the Lumia 920 (1280 x 768px) it will enjoy superior black levels thanks to the Amoled tech in the display.
The display also has Gorilla Glass 2, with ClearBlack tech and a high-brightness mode for improved outdoor visibility and hopefully the same hyper touch tech that lets you use the Lumia 920 with gloves on.
The Camera is the same 8.7-megapixel backside-illuminated sensor, but Nokia has added another lens to make it a 6 Carl Zeiss Lens camera, this 6th lens element improves sharpness of images.
